Influencer, Influencer, Make Me a Match

On the surface, TikTok is all lip-syncing teens, Old Town Road, and viral #hashtag challenges, but there’s more to this app than meets the eye. If running your own account doesn’t feel like the best fit for your brand, you can still have a presence on the platform — through influencer marketing, of course. With a new app called Influence Grid, marketers can easily search through a database of TikTok influencers and sort them by topic, follower size, engagement levels, and more to find their influencer matches made in social media heaven. It’s a free tool that’s worth a closer look for brands eager to reach a portion of TikTok’s millions of users.

Trendspotting on Pinterest? Groundbreaking

No, really! Pinterest has long been a source of shopping and life inspiration for consumers, providing the platform a wealth of data on what shoppers are interested in and how their interests change over time. This week, the site announced it will share those insights with brands through Pinterest Trends. The tool, currently in beta, provides data on the top search terms of the last 12 months and highlights when top terms peak. The majority of activity on Pinterest is consumer focused, but both B2C and B2B marketers can make use of these insights for marketing and content ideas. Because no matter the business, staying in the know and capitalizing on trends never goes out of style.

And Twitter’s #BestOfTweets Goes To …

Working on a product or service launch? You’ll want to check out @TwitterMktg’s latest thread that celebrates brands’ most creative launches on the platform this year. The thread covers categories like Best Brand Voice and Best Digital to Physical Activation, complete with a retweet of the winning tweets and explanations of why they’re so good. Example: Best Brand Launch went to Disney+ for its thread of more than 600 tweets promoting the streaming service’s content library. While your brand may not be quite as extra as Disney, the overall thread is an excellent source of inspiration and showcases just how effective Twitter can be during a campaign, launch, or otherwise.

Alexa, Play Reflections by MisterWives

January may be for looking ahead, but December is for reflecting — and, boy oh boy, social media and digital platforms like to look back. This week, Twitter, Pinterest, Google, and TikTok all published lists of the top content and trends seen on their sites from the past year. (YouTube also published its 2019 Rewind video, and it’s garnering a lot of 👎.) From product searches on Google to cultural trends on Pinterest to popular hashtags on TikTok, these lists provide a wide range of insight into some of the most prominent user activity this year.

Social and digital trends constantly evolve — and it’s essential for brands to know what’s relevant to their target audiences to build and nurture relationships. So while a scroll through the lists can certainly provide an entertaining brain break, it will pay off to take a deeper dive into these reports. Because among all the viral silliness, there’s plenty of useful data and idea starters for your 2020 content and social strategies.
